Setting up your 'Home' page
When you download, or first open your browser, you will find a default page has been added which opens up every time you go online. It was placed there by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), or the company that looks after you e.mail facility (Tiscali, BT Openworld, Virgin etc.). This is okay if you want their page to open every time you go online, but sometime you may not. Here is how you change it.

| First you want to click on 'Tools' located at the top of your browser bar. |

A drop down box will appear and you should click on 'Internet Options'. |

Once you have clicked it, a dialogue box will open up looking something like this one. Note that the 'default' page is set to open up with the Microsoft Home Page. |

Click on the box saying 'Use Blank'. You will notice that the dialogue box that once said 'http://www.microsoft.com/' has changed to 'about:blank'. From now on, every time you open Internet Explorer, it will open up a blank page. The other thing you may notice is that we reduce the number of pages in the 'History' to just one day. This is a personal preference to reduce the amount stored in the computers memory, most people have it set between 7 and 14 days. Finally, you can set the 'Home Page' to any site you like instead of using 'Blank'. Simply surf to your favourite site, and once it is loaded repeat the operation above, but this time click on 'Use Current' instead of 'Use Blank' and your new home page will be set for you. |
