Buying, Installing and running Nod32...
The best way to get Nod32 on your computer is to ask us and we will install it for you. The first thing that must be done is for your 'old' anti-virus to be removed from the computer. This sounds easy, but in the real world can be a challenge. Because of the nature of anti-virus software, it tends to embed itself into every nook and cranny of your computer's hard drive. It has to do this in order to do its job properly. The snag is totally removing it once it is out of date - there are removal tools available but they are hard to find, after all the manufacturer doesn't really want you to remove their software!
Here are Tactical Panda we have the means to remove most types of existing anti-virus software completely, so the installation of a new anti-virus, like Nod32, will go ahead without any potential conflicts.

After Installation

| Once installed, and the computer has been re-started (re-booted) to complete the installation, an icon will have appeared in the bottom right-hand corner of you toolbar.
To open Nod32, double-click on the icon and the mini-window will open up on your screen like the one shown above. Alternatively you can go via the Start button > All programs > Eset > Nod32, but this is a bit long-winded! |
Scanning & Updating
![]() |
| This is the basic control panel from which you can operate all the systems, including the computer scan page shown here. You will probably have to complete an update first, which means going online and updating the latest definitions from the ESET website, or you can wait a few minutes as the updates are downloaded automatically.
What are definitions? These are the very latest virus threats, and the ability for the software to combat them. That's why your definitions should be as up to date as possible. More about that later and why you should make sure that your updates are done automatically. So, first of all, click on the update link, and a second window will open up like the one below. |
![]() |
| At the time of writing this page, this one is already updated, but all you have to do is click on 'update virus signature database' to get the latest definitions. They will also be installed for you automatically. Virtually every time you go online, Nod32 updates itself - little and often, rather than once a week and downloading a lot of new definitions. |
Scanning
| You will need to do your first scan of your computer. To do this, click on Computer Scan in the control panel, then click on 'Standard Scan'. The scan will take about 20-30 minutes and a progress bar will show you how it is doing! |

What happens if it finds a virus?Should Nod32 find a virus it will tell you! A window will appear on your screen (similar to the one shown here on the right) telling you what it has found - as it finds it - and ask you what you want to do with it. Naturally you will click on 'delete' won't you! |

Other features
Nod32 scans all your e.mails, both inbound and outbound, and attaches a small note to the bottom of the e.mail saying it has done so. This inspires confidence for the recipient that you are not sending them a virus!
In addition to the full scan mentioned above, you can also scan a disc (Floppy disc, CD-ROM, DVD etc), by inserting the disc and clicking on 'Custom Scan'. Very useful if you have been sent a disc and you are unsure about the integrity of the contents.
There is no need to alter any of the other functions within the Nod32 control panel, but feel free to have a look around!
How Much Is Nod32?
Nod32 anti-virus software is very keenly priced. There are several 'packages' available, but we will concentrate on the most popular, the stand-alone computer in the home.
For one year of anti-virus protection, including built-in e.mail scanning (e.g. Outlook Express), the cost for one computer license when bought via Tactical Panda is only £29 a year. Whichever way you look at it, this represents great value for money! Try comparing this price with the other market-leading anti-virus software available 'in the shops', I am sure you will agree is shows a great saving! If you have multiple computers, require two or more year's protection, have a server or require a commercial license for your business, please ask for details of how you can save even more!
