Remote Assistance
If you would like to us to assist you by looking at your computer from a remote location (i.e. our workshop), this can be done quickly and easily without you ever leaving your home! By giving us permission we are able to gain 'remote access and control' of your computer, from one of our computers!
What are the advantages?
Let's say you just want a short one-to-one tutorial on how to use (for example) a new piece of software you have bought. Or, your computer is not behaving itself. It's not a major fault, but you just need someone to show you how to solve the problem.
By using Remote Assistance, you won't have to leave home searching for a computer engineer, or spend hours on hold to a helpline, or leave your computer in a workshop with 'I will give you a ring when it's ready mate' echoing in your ears! Using Remote Assistance means the problem could be solved online - and just for the cost of a phone call!
What's involved?
- One of the best and most secure way is Join.Me, you don't need any software to be permanently installed on your computer, but you must be connected to the internet via broadband. This software is completely free to use.
- You will be asked to download and temporarily install some software to allow your computer to 'talk' to ours. It is quite safe to do this, and we will talk you through this procedure - it only takes a couple of minutes.
- Please note that during a remote access session, your desktop wallpaper may be temporarily switched off to aid the speed of connection. This will be restored after the session is ended.
- You can disconnect from the remote session at any time.
- We have strict privacy rules that means your documents, photos and information will remain private.
- You sit back and watch what we are doing to your computer while it is happening - in real time. You can tell us to stop at anytime.
- We will also be talking to you on the telephone while we are working on your computer, informing you of what we are doing as it happens.
Ending the Remote Session
To end a Remote Access connection at any time, simply close the Join.Me window and you will be disconnected immediately, this means that we can no longer access your computer, and if you want to continue with a new session, you will have to install the software again.
The cost?

Step 1Click on one of the links (above) and a new window will automatically open directing you to the Join.Me website. As you can see, the connection is already very secure (note the https://). |

Step 2For best use, make sure the browser window is maximised. Now click on the big orange 'button' next to the word 'Share'. |

Step 3Having clicked on the button, a small window will appear while the software is temporarily installed on your computer. |

Step 4The software has been installed when you see this window at the top of your screen. The number we require from you are shown in this example as 509-420-367, please write them down and tell us over the telephone what they are. |

Ending the remote session
| To leave the remote session at any time, click on the 'X' in the top right-hand corner, you will be asked if you are sure you want to exit, click on the word 'Yes'. | ![]() |
